FAQs for NPPC Officers

  1. What is my time commitment? Deacons meet once a month in a Deacons’ meeting, and other meetings depend on what area of service you choose.  Elders will meet in a Session meeting once a month with an additional meeting each month with their assigned team. Elders also serve as greeters on a rotating schedule, and once every couple of months they are responsible for taking money to the bank after the worship service. Some Elders and Deacons serve communion on a regular basis and some act as substitutes.

  2. Will I have to chair a team or committee? The plan for each team is to have a chair who is not on Session, but that is not always the case. If a Session member is the chair, it is usually a second or third year Elder. The Deacons send a representative to each Session meeting to convey Deacon activity and to bring back information to the Deacons’ meeting, and the Elders have a member assigned to Deacon meetings.

  3. Do I have to attend all my assigned meetings? You need to be in attendance whenever possible. Having all members present shares the officer responsibilities and allows you to be an informed participant in the ministry of NPPC.

  4. Am I on the same team or committee each year? Some officers stay with the same team or committee ministry for three years. Others move as their desires and the NPPC needs change.

  5. When I am a greeter, what are my responsibilities? You are assigned to one of the doors and you greet the congregation as they exit. Two greeters each week take the money to the bank.

  6. How much do I have to know about the Book of Order and the Book of Confessions?  You will have training about both of these books as well as Presbyterian history. This training should make you comfortable with the denomination that you serve.

  7. What are the teams to which NPPC officers are assigned?  Administrative, Church in the World, Congregational Life, Discipleship and Education  and Worship and Arts. Congregational Life is comprised of the NPPC Deacons and one Elder.
