Ever Wonder Where Your Mission Monies Go?
You may be interested in knowing how you through the Missions Committee spends your money, how you help others locally, regionally, nationally and globally.
The 2018 Missions Budget was $10,800, and this is how it was spent.
2018 expenditures/donations:
Transitional Living Center (Lowell, MA), a large shelter and homeless support organization, $1000
Open Pantry of Greater Lowell, provides short-term food assistance, $1000
St. Paul’s Soup Kitchen (Lowell, MA), $1000
UMA Lowell Protestant Campus Ministry, $300
Belinda Forbes, Missionary with the Board of Global Ministries, UMC, serving in Nicaragua, with the Accion Medica Cristiana, $2773
UMCOR, United Methodist Commission on Relief, specifically US disaster response (includes Puerto Rico), $2000
Aids Orphans and Community Health, Maua Hospital Kenya, Providing food, tuition, uniforms, shoes and medical care for 1,600 children orphaned by AIDS, $500
The Living Faith UMC Church, Ipswich, MA, Pastor is Adam Randazzo, a former member of West Chelmsford. The church had suffered severe damage from a ceiling collapse in May, 2018. A donation went towards replacing bibles, hymnals, choir robes - several items damaged by asbestos and not covered by insurance, $500
Tree of Life Synagogue, Pittsburgh, PA. This synagogue suffered from a deadly rampage of anti-Semitism, there were 11 congregants murdered October 27, 2018, $500
Missions dinner, October 13, 2018, proceeds (a total of $773) supplemented by money from Missions budget: $1000 total given to Justice for Our Neighbors (JFON), A UMC immigration Ministry that provides free legal advice and hospitality to mostly unaccompanied minors in the Lowell/Lawrence area.
And the Tree of Life Ministry, a UMC Advance Project, serving the Native American Population ( the Sicangu Lakota Nation), by improving nutrition, help with developing gardens, orchards, with clothing needs, and in many ways improving their physical health and wellness. How else do you give?
The Salvation Army Angel Tree-over 60 needy children in the Lowell area received Christmas presents.
Faithworks- A community outreach day, providing yard work and home repairs for area residents who can no longer either do or afford to pay for this help, while also providing company and good fellowship.
UMC Special Sundays-offerings enable United Methodists like you to offer refuge in times of disaster, promote peace and justice, provide scholarships and student loans, reach out to the community, teach skills to 10 Missions
encourage self-sufficiency and share the love of Jesus Christ with God's people everywhere. These Sundays include Human Relations Day, UMCOR Sunday, Native American Ministries Sunday, Peace with Justice Sunday, World Communion Sunday and United Methodist Student Day.
