Mission/Outreach

Mission and Outreach Ministry News

The purpose of the mission and outreach ministry team is to reach out to locally, nationally, and internationally.  We are called to minister to those in need using our God-given gifts.  We are called to proclaim the gospel and to welcome people into the body of christ, to lead people to a commitment to God through Jesus  Christ, to nurture them in Christian living by various means of grace, and to send them into the world as agents of Jesus Christ.

Hands On Mission Outreach

  • Gleaning - At the beginning of each year, volunteers go into the fields to glean a variety of fruit and vegetables.  The food gathered is distributed to those in need here in Palm Beach County through CROS (Christians Reaching Out to Society) Ministries.  Adults, youth, and children are welcome to participate.
  • CROS Ministries - Our congregations works closely with this ministries reaching out to those in need right here in our county.  We actively work in many ways, including: gleaning, volunteering at the Food Pantry, collecting needed food, toiletries, and children's books, working at the CROS Summer Camps, mentoring families and children, and collecting gift cards for children during the Christmas season.
  • Shots By Two - This new outreach project is designed for those that have time to make a few phone calls and send postcards to parents reminding them to have their children immunized.  All materials are provided -- including postage.
  • Mission Trips - The youth and adults of our church volunteer their time for missions.  For 2005, the youth will be assisting in hurricane recovery projects.  The adults will also work on hurricane recovery projects and are planning a mission trip to Cuba for 2006.
  • Children's Sabbath - In October of each year, we celebrate the Children's Sabbath, an interfaith sabbath reminding us of children in need right here close to home.  We incorporate this into various mission outreach projects designed to reach children in need throughout the year.

Support for International Missions

Each year, we take a special offering at Easter to support international mission projects -- as well as one local mission outreach organization.

  • Our covenant missionaries, Delbert & Sandy Groves in Zambia, Africa - Their mission, the New Life Center, reaches out in so many ways.  They provide help with new church starts, the printing of Christian resources in native languages, health care training, and a very special project (the PET project).  The PET project provides special vehicles ("personal energy transportation") for those who cannot walk due to accidents, land mines, polio, and other diseases.
  • Clara Swain Hospital, Bareilly, India -  Established in the 1800's, this hospital is still desperately needed because women and children still do not have adequate access to health care.
  • Christian Women's Crisis Center, Indonesia - In response to the terrible devastation due to the earthquake and tsunamis in December, 2004, we have chosen a relief agency located in Indonesa for this year's offering.
  • Baltic Christian Mission, Estonia - Despite the Cold War, this mission continued to thrive.  Today it is a place of hope and provides worship and education facilities for Christian leaders.
  • Christian Reaching Out to Society (CROS), West Palm Beach, FL - Our local mission supports a wide-range of programming for those in need right here in Palm Beach County.  In addition, CROS has been designated to coordinate all of the hurricane relief efforts for the church along the east coast of Florida.

Mission Education for All Ages

We provide a variety of ways for our congregation to learn more about mission outreach and people in need.  We do this through classes, special programs, visits by missionaries, Sunday School, Bible studies, and attendance at events such as the School of Christian Mission.  We believe that mission outreach is a lifelong activity.  Our programs serve adults, youth, and children.

What Could You Do With $6?

Could you buy a movie ticket, a cup of gourmet coffee, or a take out meal?  Would you be willing to give up just one of those to help people in need?  This is the challenge for our denomination-wide offerings for 2005.  We are asking you to give at least $1 to each of the six offerings: Human Relations Day (January), One Great Hour of Sharing (March), Native American Ministries Sunday (April), Peace with Justice Sunday (May), World Communion Sunday (October), and United Methodist Student Sunday (November).  Let's see what $6 can do!

Our Missionaries & Mission Projects

Our church has a special covenant relationship with three mission projects.  This means that our relationship is much more than financial.  We have a relationship with each of these organizations and missionaries.  Please pray for these projects.  Iglesia Metodista de Entronque de Herradura, Cuba

Sunday School Offering Supports Missions

Don't forget your Sunday School offering because it adds up to help for two very special mission opportunities.  The children voted to support Heifer Project International and the youth and adults chose the CROS (Christians Reaching Out to Society) summer camperships program.  Keep your eyes out for updates here and in the church newsletter.  Those dollars really add up for mission outreach.

Florida United Methodist Children's Home

We have a special relationship with the Children's Home that reaches out to children in crisis right here in Florida.  A special offering is taken during the months with a fifth Sunday.  We also provide opportunities to visit the Children's Home.

Shots by Two Program

Volunteers remind parents when their young child is due for immunizations.  The volunteer will receive a packet containing immunization information, reminder cards and birthday cards which will be sent at set points during a 15 month period.  Postage for all cards is provided. Each volunteer is responsible for about 10 babies and the names and addresss of the mother are sent to the volunteer within a month of the birth of the baby.  Nitza Madden (561-840-4566) is the coordinator of this program for the Palm Beach County Health Department.  If you plan to participate, please let our Mission and Outreach Team know so we can officially add you to our "Shots by Two" Team by calling our church's coordinator, Dianna Tadlock at 743-8919.
